Cub Scouts camp on the farm - West Somerset Free Press 28th July 2006

Members of the 1st Williton Cubs took home the honours in a District craft competition organised as part of an annual camp attended by representatives from all five of West Somerset's Cub Scout Groups.

Some 61 Cub Scouts and 18 adults from Dunster, Exmoor, Porlock, Watchet and Williton spent two nights at Mill Farm, in Fiddington.

While Williton beat the 1st Dunster pack into second place in the craft competition, the Dunster youngsters

finished first in the Millenium flag contest
ahead of members of the 1st Exmoor
(Minehead) group.

The Craft Cup and Millenium Flag were
presented to the winning groups by District
Commissioner Graham Haw.

The theme of the camp was The Romans
and Cub Scouts made Roman shields
and eagle standards.

Adult members of the Group even
designed Roman ballista to enable the
Cubs to do battle by firing wet sponges!

Other activities during the camp
included a pasta hunt, scavenger hunt,
quiz, and collecting 'Roman' coins from
an island on a boating lake.
