Knockout time at Horner - West Somerset Free Press 7th July 2006

More than a hundred Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides from West Somerset converged on Horner Wood camp site for the annual Scout "Its a Knockout".

Designed as a day of fun, seven challenging games had been set up by Scout Leaders, from an obstacle course to slippery tug-of-war.

The weather couldn't have been better - dry with warm sunshine and only a light breeze - and following a packed lunch the
youngsters were divided randomly
into 14 teams, two at a time
taking part in each game.

Each game ran for 12 minutes,
followed by a short break when the
central scoreboard was updated and
the teams moved on to their next
game.

At the end, three teams were tied
for first place so an elimination
slippery tug-of-war was used to
decide the overall winners, and

each team member was presented
with a signed certificate by Scout
District Commissioner Graham Haw.

"Judging by the smiles on their
faces and comments overheard
throughout the afternoon, every-
one present had a fantastic time
and were looking forward to next
year", said Mr Haw.

He thanked all the Leaders, the
Scout Fellowship - who ran a tuck
shop and provided drinks - and
the Red Cross for all the time and
effort they had given to make the
event a success.
